Mária Luggosy, sculptor(Munkácsy Prize holder)
She was born in Budapest, 9th May 1950. Her studies:
Hungarian Craft School (1968-73), Postgraduate Institute
of Hungarian Craft School (1973-75). “ I declare
myself a sculptor, in whose accessories the glass can
also be found. According to my school qualification
I was a metallurgist. The glass came into my life when
I was entranced by the wonderful world of mineral stones
and crystals, observing in them the regularities and
eventualities. This duality is accompanying ever since
my sculpture world, out of which slowly a certain philosophic
mentality was born; the comparison of opposites and
its constant simultaneous presence. The glass in my
work is not unexclusive and not privileged, but it was
worth to learn with a lot of struggle how to handle
what this material is dictate; from the optical precision
to the capricious nature-principled sand-blowing.”
Her exhibitions: Budapest (Art Gallery), Tihany, Hamburg,
Tokyo, Paris, Frankfurt, London, New York, Düsseldorf.
